Full-Time Lean Web Developer / Engineer / Hacker !

LawPath – Posted by andy@lawpath Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Job Description

Who Are We

LawPath is Australia’s fastest growing online legal business and we are looking for a talented Web Developer (Ruby on Rails preferred, but we just want a great engineer willing to learn) to come join our small but quickly growing, agile team.

LawPath launched in December 2012 with the goal to disrupt a $20 billion dollar industry by simplifying how people who need legal assistance and representation engage lawyers. Since launch we have achieved an exceptional growth rate, partnered with one of the industries largest service providers globally and raised capital for early stage growth, and thats where you come in!

If you want an opportunity to work with a highly experienced and successful startup team who include Founders of Pollenizer, Spreets, Tempurer and Budget Places with multiple exits totalling over $90 million then you need to speak to us.

This is an early stage role so we only want to work with people who are passionate about making their mark on a business and have the expertise to pull off a major technical build.

As our first technical hire you’ll be encouraged to take ownership of the product – it’s yours as much as it is ours, and you’ll be involved in all high level and low level decision making.

Do you fit the bill? Read on!

The Tech Stack

  • Ruby on Rails (you don’t have to be a rails expert, just be a great engineer)
  • Postgres
  • JQuery
  • Delayed_Job (Async tasks)
  • Slim
  • Github
  • Heroku
  • New Relic (perf monitor)

You Will Be

  • Prototyping ideas, coming up with product features, end to end development
  • Define and build tech to run business model tests (A/B Testing, user behaviour analysis, data visualisation)
  • Taking the existing codebase from good to great
  • Refactoring and testing the ‘important parts’
  • One-off random technical tasks
  • Making spot decisions about what technologies, APIs, and design patterns to use
  • Learning and embracing Lean development.

You’d Be Working With Us, Not For Us, So We Provide…

  • An opportunity to work on a fast growing startup where you’ll be intimately involved in technical decisions.
  • An opportunity to grow with the business – this will be the first technical hire of many with the opportunity to flex your technical muscles and grow with the team.
  • An environment with passionate people.
  • A cool and comfortable office
  • Autonomy, and flexibility
  • An employee share options plan

We Hope You’ll Be

  • Fun to be around. We love what we do and want you to have the same passion. Know when to buckle down but also when to share a few jokes (or beers).
  • Know how to ship. You know how to balance the tradeoffs between moving fast and breaking things; and shipping maintainable code.
  • Reliable and independent. We’re a small team and our hands are too busy to be holding yours. You’ll need to be able to take a task, run with it, and let us know when you get stuck or need answers.
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty. You’re going to be required to do a bit everything, some of which you may have never done before. You have to be comfortable with playing with new APIs and technologies that you’ve never touched before – this is an opportunity to grow and get out of your comfort zone!

So if you’re passionate about a challenge and want to be involved in a life changing experience and believe you have the technical chops to help us change an industry we would love to hear from you.
