The Company

BIRDI’s drone management platform seamlessly links a corporate, small business or local council need with all relevant drone capabilities and prerequisites (including aviation regulations, flight tracking and insurances). BIRDI’s clients enjoy tailored solutions, with the platform delivering image and data capture directly to the client.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Tech Lead to join the BIRDI team.

As an early engineer, you’ll help define BIRDI’s engineering culture and practice extreme ownership over a critical user-facing platform. You will tackle a wide variety of technical problems throughout the stack and contribute daily to all parts of our code base, using our development workflow.

This role is suited to a high performance full-stack developer with an entrepreneurial mindset.


  • Sound computer-science understanding
  • Deep understanding of ES6 + NodeJS and browser APIs
  • Familiarity with JS frameworks & libs across the stack esp. React, Redux, RxJS, Express, Koa, Webpack
  • Able to implement and understands the value of E2E, unit & integration testing
  • Professional competency of at least one statically typed language and/including either Swift, Obj-C or Java
  • Cloud architecture esp. AWS & microservices architecture
  • Leading an agile workflow
  • Proven delivery of services at scale, familiarity with Docker, container orchestration, autoscaling, etc

Preferred skills

  • ReactNative
  • Nginx
  • RTMP, live-streaming experience
  • Aeronautical, robotic and electronic engineering, CV, UAV experience
  • Sound product/UI design understanding
  • Familiarity or prior experience with Geoserver, geographic imagery, BIM, etc


The remuneration for this role will be a combination of salary, superannuation plus stock. BIRDI’s employee share plan is based on the performance of the Company through the achievement of individual and company objectives.

Please note that BIRDI may require you to work on the weekends due to the nature of the business, BIRDI will consider flexible work arrangements!
